Grant Projects

Organizing South Asian Domestic Workers through Survey and Education
Period 2024-2025
Partner Union of Nepalese Domestic Workers in Hong Kong
Project Code G2430
Grant Amount(HKD) HKD $120,000
Concern Area Freedom from Discrimination
Outline Union of Nepalese Domestic Workers (UNDW) is self-led by Nepalese-speaking migrant workers, most of them are Iadian Nepalese and Nepal Nepalese. Due to the small population, lack of support system and language barriers, South Asian domestic workers generally face worse exploitation compared to their Filipino or Indonesian counterparts. In addition, the visa ban imposed on Nepali domestic workers makes them more vulnerable to abuse.

This grant will support the operational cost of the union as well as a survey and education project. UNDW will reach out to fellow workers to better understand the issues they are facing. Armed with a clearer picture of the communities, UNDW can better serve them by educating them on their rights and the public on the situations they face. It is hoped that through survey and education, these severely marginalized migrant worker communities can better organize to fight against exploitation.
